Your Skin Barrier Is Probably Damaged | Here’s How to Tell and What to Do

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. Its job is to keep moisture in and irritants out. When it’s working properly, your skin feels comfortable, looks even, and heals quickly. When it’s damaged, everything goes wrong at once.

Signs your barrier is damaged
Your skin feels tight after washing. Products that used to be fine now sting or burn. Your skin looks dull and feels rough no matter how much moisturiser you use. You’re breaking out more than usual. Dark marks from old spots aren’t fading.
If any of those sound familiar, your barrier is likely compromised.

How does the barrier get damaged?
Over-exfoliation is the most common cause, using too many acids, scrubs, or active ingredients too frequently. But the Nigerian climate plays a role too. Harmattan strips moisture from the skin. Heat and humidity disrupt the skin’s natural pH. Sun exposure without protection accelerates barrier breakdown.

How to repair it
Barrier repair requires three things: humectants to draw moisture in, occlusives or emollients to lock it in, and anti-inflammatory ingredients to calm the damage.

The CLUUF Skin Step 3 RESET Serum addresses all three. Urea at 10% draws moisture into the skin and supports the natural moisturising factor your barrier depends on. Panthenol at 2% locks moisture in and supports barrier lipid production. Centella Asiatica at 5% reduces inflammation. Snail Mucin at 12% supports skin regeneration and recovery. Trehalose at 4% protects skin cells against dehydration stress.

One important note
If your barrier is severely damaged, introduce the RESET Serum slowly, once daily in the evening to begin with, then increase to twice daily as your skin adjusts. Follow with a moisturiser every time.
